New CCÉ branch in Arizona
The new Four Peaks Irish Arts is Arizona’s branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann. Pronounced COAL-tis KYOL-tory AIR-in, CCÉ is the largest group in the world dedicated to the preservation and enjoyment of Irish music, dance, language, song, and culture. Loosely translated, it means “gathering of Irish musicians.” It is especially interested in passing on these traditions to our youth.
Founded in Dublin in 1951, CCÉ now has more than 400 branches promoting the traditional arts of Ireland around the world, including some unexpected countries: Hungary, Sweden, Australia, Japan, Italy, & Argentina, to name but a few.
CCÉ has no religious or political agenda, and you do not have to be Irish to join or attend the events. Comhaltas is open to anyone interested in traditional Irish culture. They always welcome new supporters to the growing organization! The events offer a friendly, informal atmosphere that members of all ages will enjoy.
Membership in CCÉ has many perks, including:
• Free access to Comhaltas.ie, including ComhaltasLive, sheet music, an interactive
Gaelige/English dictionary, vast online music, language and dance database, and more
• Discounted lessons
• Yearly Subscription to ‘Treoir’ quarterly magazine
• Discounts at various Comhaltas events world-wide
• Supporting the cultural heritage of Ireland!
The first general meeting will be held on June 27th at 7:30 P.M. at the Irish Cultural Center. Registered members and all who are interested in joining to preserve and promote Irish music, dance, song and language are invited to attend. There will be a session to follow.
