2008 St. Patrick's Day Parade Winners
It was a chilly and sometimes rainy day for the parade and festival, but the crowd had a good time. Here are the parade winners (see their pictures here):
Best of Parade: Seven Pipers Scottish Society Pipe & Drum Band, second place, Tir Conaill Academy of Irish Dance
Best Float: McArdle Clan, second place, St. Augustine High School
Most Humorous: Mashed Potato Queens, second place, Society of Perpetual Indulgence
Best Theme (St. Patrick in the Old Pueblo): Viva Performing Arts Center, second place, Mashed Potato Queens
Best Family: St. Patrick/Hennessy Family, second place, McArdle Clan
Some of the festival entertainment got rained out. A surprise reemergence of the sun caught Maguire Acaddemy of Irish Dance students already gone, but in a gesture of cooperation and good will, Chris McGrory, teacher of Tir Conaill Academy of Irish Dance, played his accordion for the 3 remaining Maguire dancers, who did well with their challenge: one championship and two beginner dancers! Fair play to all of the hearty entertainers, parade participants, and attendees—you were all winners this year!
