Trim the Velvet

Trim the Velvet is a four piece Celtic band with flute, tin whistle, fiddle, Irish Harp, bass, bodhran (Irish drum), and two vocalists. The band plays Celtic reels, jigs, hornpipes, waltzes and airs from both Ireland and Scotland, plus both ballads and upbeat vocals.
The four members are:
William Don Carlos: fiddle, Scottish small pipes, highland bagpipes,and vocals.
Mary Bouley: Irish harp, keyboards and electric bass
Don Gest: wooden flute, tin whistle and bodhran
Jim McConnell: guitar and vocals.
Each band member has over 20 years experience playing Celtic traditional music.
William is also an accomplished opera singer, and has performed worldwide; he is highly regarded in Tucson’s Scottish and Irish communities, and he sings an exceptional version of Danny Boy.
Mary Bouley performed with The Chieftains in Tucson playing a tribute to Derek Bell, and also performs with the band Oceans Apart, out of Phoenix.
Jim McConnell his played with numerous old-time bands in Tucson and throughout the U.S, with over 30 years performing experience.
Don Gest was a member of the band New Potatoes and also performed with an early version of The Mollys.

Lorna Govier, on Irish harp. Harp duets & harp with keyboards are included when Lorna performs.

Available for performances, parties, weddings and any other occasions, Trim the Velvet has performed at each St. Patrick’s Day Festival from 2000 to 2007 in Tucson, at each Tucson Folk Festival from 2001 to 2007, and at the Tucson Celtic Festival. Trim the Velvet has played numerous weddings and graduations. They were featured at the Tucson Emerald Ball in March 2002, the Seven Pipers annual performance in April, 2005, and at Tucson Meet Yourself 2005.
