Bloomsday Celebration June 16th

Bloomsday is a commemoration observed annually on June 16 in Dublin—and cities all over the world— to celebrate the life of Irish writer, James Joyce, and relive the events in his novel, Ulysses, all of which takes place in Dublin on June 16, 1904. Today, the day is a secular holiday in Ireland. The name, Bloomsday, derives from the protagonist of Ulysses, Leopold Bloom. June 16 marked the date of Joyce’s first outing with his wife-to-be, Nora Barnacle, when they walked to the Dublin village of Ringsend.

The Irish American Gaelic Society of Tucson is hosting Tucson’s Bloomsday Celebration, Friday, June 16, 2017, 6:00pm at the VFW Post 549, 8424 E Old Spanish Trail. Festivities include excerpts from Joyce’s Ulysses, music & poetry.
